10 StarFire Elite 0-4 -28 0.375

No coin was flipped to settle Rebels vs. Llamas debacle. I polled my friends who had no clue what it was about. Llamas won 2 to one.

The Dark vs. Assassins - 2nd, Ass up 1-0

Sterling vs. !norating

Nguyens vs. Llamas

Rebels vs. StarFire Elite - SFE cannot play LSF or HM by the rules.

Happy Mob vs. LSF

With less squads than rounds I think we'll get some interesting mismatches still :/

Fixed schedule next season? Hmm? Perhaps.

Nguyens vs. Llamas

Rebels vs. StarFire Elite - SFE cannot play LSF or HM by the rules.

This is an open thread to discuss thoughts about the 1998 SVS settings. A couple of days isn't long enough to really see the consequences of having them in, but it's enough to get a feeling about them.

When I first took over the zone, the first thing I did was go back to these SVS settings, and work from there. I am now tempted to do something similar and go back to the settings (including bot settings) I had when I left (in 2003-4) and go from there again (which were very close to SVS settings).

People have mentioned the amount greens -- thereby rediscovering why Chaos-Bot was originally built -- to dynamically change freqsizes and green settings specifically to help low population situations smoothly transfer to higher pops. Those numbers were juiced up quite a bit after I left -- I think they need reexamining.

The biggest thing I noticed was the 30 bty start + not 100% ?status + larger freqsizes. These factors have a huge impact on team play. When you spawn, everyone needs to green -- and you need your teammates to help you green quickly or you risk dying. This means that team play is much more important overall -- everyone helps everyone. I've thought for a long time that squad culture needs to be revived in whatever ways possible -- the critical importance of team greening has been a missing component that we used to have here. This point would argue against freqsizes ever being 1.

What did you all think?

Chaos Zone is bringing back the VIE days with *real* CD SVS settings this weekend. The original, overpowered, cloaking shark, 30 bty start, and more! It's a journey in the time machine back to 1998 when negs were NEGS!!! Well actually, not quite, but much more neg-like. Lots of players anticipating this -- should be fun!

Stop by and green up for old school Chaos action and experience what it was like to play Chaos in 1998! Settings in NOW!!

Also: Pro League Season 29 continues, and Warzone at 5pm ET Sunday!

Looks like Priit is working on the biller, so scores, chats, bots are all down for now. You can play and lame about, but nothing counts toward the new reset. Hopefully he'll have it working soon, and the new reset will commence.

How do you get someone, who is used to cutting edge - or at least recent - gaming technology, to like Subspace.

To get someone to go have a look, not to mention to play, come back, and repeat, is an immense achievement, very difficult.

Fellow Aussie fenrix got four mates to join once, was seen out east near the safes showing them all the ropes (telling them stuff through something like Teamspeak, I think). Of these, Soothsayer II came back for one or two more visits, then he disappeared.

Various folks here have been known to get their kids online to have a play. I know Blackers is one, but there seem to be a few here and there. Whether there are stayers amongst them, well, who can say.

Every now and then I've plugged the game on a major sporting forum (in Aust) and had zero luck. One guy said it looked like StarCon, that's all I got. ( link: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/editpost.php?do=editpost&postid=20600925 )

Has anyone actually had some luck, said to a friend, you should try this! They've tried, and they've stayed?

'cause it usually feels like I'm on a hiding to nothing.

 What do you think?

Question/Speculation: If this were changed without you being told, how long do you think it would take you to notice?

How long for _anyone_ to notice such a change?

|   Giving Coords in pub chat |

Jazz has recently been persistently giving coords of gad's turret in pub chat. He and capefire and perhaps others are less than happy about it from what I gather. He gave out my coords both on a turret and solo for a while last night, and for me, that was fun.

I'd like a discussion on and people's thoughts on giving out coords in pub chat.

First some info:

There is no way to prevent people from doing the exact same thing on priv chat, or team chats etc. If I have high bty I just always assume that someone is spec'ing me and giving out coords. If they give out my coords (or the coords of a turret I'm on) in pub I consider it a sign of recognition of achievement -- but it can also be a sign of lame play.

This has never been illegal previously. Excessive spamming of pub chat is illegal and giving coords often needs to be frequent enough to be classified as spam. We could never completely eliminate it in any case (just like spam).

Giving coords in chat is not remotely as helpful to hunting as watching a second Continuum client spec'ing the object of the chase -- it allows you see to the hunted's energy, direction, speed of travel, items, mines, traps, bricks laid, etc. all in real time. There is no comparison between the usefulness of the two.

It is virtually always done as a macro, so players can ignore public macros and not see any of the coords/spammage. Probably there are a number of ppl who don't even realize it's being done.

In the old days, for example, if someone mine repped a Warlord (or otherwise diss'ed him/her), the squad would band together, with one person spec'ing and giving info over squad chat, to hunt that person mercilessly, and embarrass them in chat by calling out their lame behavior.

Ok -- now what are your thoughts? I thought I'd give people a place to discuss and vent if they want <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' /> Just fyi I'm highly disinclined to make a new rule about this, but as always, I'm willing to listen to reasonable arguments.

 Round 2 results:

3/27 3:52 pm Nguyens def Rebels 12-6 log

3/27 3:44 pm Llamas def Happy Mob 12-5 log

3/27 3:01 pm Assassins def The Dark 9-7 log

3/27 2:48 pm !norating def LSF 12-7 log

3/27 2:40 pm Sterling def StarFire Elite 12-3 log

KNeWWiN pulled a nice 5-2 2 assists, 8 FR, 85k dealth 69k taken vs. Rebels.

Aramen was 0-2 at a 3-3 score 13 minutes into Llamas' game vs. Happy Mob. Llamas ended up winning 12-5, Aramen 5-2.

Assassins and The Dark hit the 45 minute mark, TD seemed obvilious to 8-7 not being overtime, so with 20 seconds remaining Legacy took a dumb gunduel (even with his tanking abilities) and died out.

Other than that, saiyan 4-2, 7FR, 83k/66k. ro 1-2, 4 wasted repels. Attaboy.

Macuto from !norating pulled a 6-1 vs. LSF.

Didn't go through the logs. If you see someone making a good funnyfunny in a specific game, let me know.

Standings after round 2:

1 Nguyens 2-0 15 0.833

2 Sterling 2-0 13 0.5

3 Assassins 2-0 9 0.5

4 Rebels 1-1 4 0.5

5 The Dark 1-1 4 0.5

6 Llamas 1-1 3 0.5

7 !norating 1-1 -4 0.5

8 Happy Mob 0-2 -14 0.5

9 LSF 0-2 -15 0.167

10 StarFire Elite 0-2 -15 0.5

Schedule for round 3:

3pm:

Nguyens vs. Sterling

LSF vs. StarFire Elite - doesn't matter who is #9 and #10, they play each other anyway. I like it when things work out like this.

4pm:

Assassins vs. Rebels - It doesn't matter who is #4 and #5 between Rebels and TD, as Assassins would just skip TD.

The Dark vs. Llamas

!norating vs. Happy Mob - Check this out if you can, Happy Mobsters really don't respect !nr much <img src='http://www.subspace.co/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blum.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=' ' />

If someone spots an error in there, let me know.

Euripedes was added to Rebels as agreed. You cannot add players to your roster on Sundays. I'll need to have the request and approval before any given Sunday.
